Welcome — I'm so glad you’ve found your way here.
I look forward to meeting you!
One of the questions I’m often asked is: “What exactly do you mean by consulting?”
I’ve always loved the title Emotional Support Person—but it’s a bit of a mouthful. Consulting felt like a broader umbrella that could hold the wide range of support I offer.
Let me be clear: I’m not a coach, a therapist, or a counselor.
What I am is someone who has spent over 25 years walking with people through some of life’s most intense and sacred thresholds. For much of that time, I worked as a birth doula, trainer, and educator supporting pregnant people and their families through the profound transformation of pregnancy and childbirth.
Then, in 2018, my own life shifted dramatically when I was diagnosed with stage 3c colon cancer; by 2020, I was stage 4. After five surgeries and four recurrences, I realized that many of the skills I had developed in birth work—presence, advocacy, intuition, grounding, and emotional care—translated directly into the terrain of serious illness. Since the beginning, I’ve been navigating the complex, layered journey of living with cancer. With every twist and turn, I’ve drawn from the well of experience I’ve accumulated and added new tools along the way.
Writing and sharing my own story became a lifeline—both as a way to process my experience and as a bridge to others going through their own challenges, whether cancer-related or not. I found deep meaning in showing up for people during their most vulnerable moments.
At the heart of it, I believe we’re all just human beings doing our best to navigate this life. Sometimes, we need a steady hand, a listening ear, or simply someone to sit with us through the storm. I meet each person where they are—because no two journeys, or people, are ever the same.
A little more about me:
I'm currently a Master of Divinity candidate at Meadville Lombard Theological School, a Unitarian Universalist seminary, with a focus on chaplaincy. I also have a background in the arts—as a metalsmith and collage artist. I’ve lived through two divorces, raised two biological kids and one bonus kid, came out as queer in my 30s, started a nonprofit to support pregnant incarcerated women in Michigan’s only women’s prison, and even held down an office job for a few years.
It’s been a rich, winding life—one that’s gifted me a collection of hard-earned insights. I’d be honored to share those with you, to help you find your footing, or simply to sit beside you in the boat as the waves rise and fall.
